I’ve been a practicing astrologer for over 16 years, specializing in astrology compatibility. Being somewhat of a technophobe, I’ve largely avoided the internet for much of that time. All good things must come to an end however, so here I am, now an avid online reader and writer. When time permits I read and answer questions on various relationship astrology forums. Inevitably I read topics which go like this:

I’m a Leo, am I compatible with an Aquarius?

Answer 1 — yes!

Answer 2 — no! I’m a Leo and I dated an Aquarius. We split up.

Answer 3 — relationship astrology is stupid. I spent 172 hours researching that every single sun sign combination has had divorces.

Each of these answers is wrong, yet typically each will get people agreeing with it. On forums where votes are cast one of these answer is typically selected as being correct, and filed away for future generations of question seekers.

So what’s going wrong here?

It seems like whenever and wherever astrology compatibility is discussed on the internet that there’s an assumption that sun signs are the key to astrology. I suspect this is largely due to the desire to simplify, streamline and condense everything. Astrology however is a subject where simplification often creates problems.

The grim reality is that people are much more than just their sun sign, and if you want a ‘real’ answer to an astrology question, then you’ll need a real astrology reading. Going just by sun signs is useful to get a rough idea of what to expect, but there are many other planets which can override and trample someone’s sun sign traits. Every person and natal chart is unique.

This has led to the interesting situation where probably 80% of all information about relationship astrology on the internet is basically wrong. To qualify that metric, if sun signs could be looked at in a vacuum, then information would be correct. In practice (and people are asking such question to make real life decisions, and not as a hypothetical exercise) it’s just not that straightforward.

One interesting side effect of this appears to be a small army of armchair internet astrologers, handing out parcels of neat and tidy information on all aspects of sun signs. Why do they do this? Because the concept of keywords mean that a potential visitor isn’t going to search for “Aquarius sun, Leo moon, Aries mars etc” – they’re going to search for “Aquarius” – and woe betide any article which dares to lose focus by going off topic with qualifications. Anything more complex than that will lead to the browsers back button being hit, and pretty fast.

Fair enough, perhaps this is happening in all subjects. On the internet education is clearly being led by the student, and the educators are telling them what they ask, and not what they need to know. Search engines effectively force websites to meet the need for instant gratification.

The problem for astrology is that this obsession with sun signs is degrading the credibility of the subject. People are right to say “hold on, I’m a Leo and I don’t get along with Sagittarius! This astrology stuff is worthless!” Are professional astrologers guilty of this too? Yes, we are. Because otherwise, no one would read our articles! It would be fairly easy however for astrologers to put a disclaimer or warning when answering posts or writing articles, and perhaps that’s the solution?

Quantum Astrology

The new Age of Aquarius with it’s paradigm of Quantum Physics is no less than a wake up call to man kind. Only a fool would not admit that the world is in chaos. Wars, hunger disease etc. Why? Because man kind, as a whole has left the path of spirituality and turned a blind eye to his Divine Destiny. The Divine Destiny of all mankind is and has always been becoming less bestial and more God like. The Laws of Spiritual Quantum Physics tell us that the world as we see and experience it, is in fact a a projections of the thoughts and emotions and actions of the mass mind of humanity. The mass mind is the sum total of every mind on the planet. This is what is meant by “The All” or We are all One.”

We are connected by our thoughts and feelings. The majority of mankind is dumb and ignorant of why things are the way they are. Even if they knew, they would not or could not change it. I write these articles for the 5% of humanity, which is conscious. The 5% who act as the yeast within the loaf of bread, called Humanity. The good news, is that this 5% of Conscious Humanity is enough to keep the rest of Humanity from sinking below a level of consciousness that would result in destruction of Man kind. This has happened before, during the Atlantean, the Hyperperbeon and the Mu periods. There is no guarantee that Humanity will survive this latest dip into bestiality. We need to get back on track. We need a road map, a blueprint that will help us all become more conscious.

We have one, the new paradigm of the Laws of Spiritual Quantum Physics has given us one. These Laws tell us that we are all individual souls in the Mind of God. The infinite Soul. We blink out of the Mind of God into the Quantum Ocean where we experience life. It is our Life Experiences that determine where we are individually or massively raise our levels of consciousness and become more God like or drop down lower and lower. Everything around us has it’s equivalent, Divine Blueprint in the Quantum Ocean, Mind of God. There is a Divine Plan, a Divine Blueprint of how we should live our lives to become more conscious. It is the Science of Astrology.

The whole galaxy, as well as our Solar System runs smoothly because they follow their Astrological time clock. Man has forgotten that he has built within himself his own Astrological time clock. There is a right time in our lives to do anything we want as long as we follow this clock. The Laws of Quantum Physics tell us there are a million things we can do and have and million things we cannot do nor have. Our individual Astrological clocks will tell us what they are and when we can expect them.

Our individual Astrological clock is built into our individual Solar charts. It is time for us to wipe off the dust from our Astrological Solar chart. Time to follow our individual Divine timing factors. By doing this will do many more things consciously. As we do things more consciously, we will become more conscious. As we individually become more conscious, humanity will rise out of the depths of bestiality once more into the light.

The field of astrology is huge with so many possibilities. In order to study it in a manageable proportion, we must look at it segment by segment. Once we have two astrological segments under reasonable control we can then merge them to develop a comprehensible narrative. Once we have studied an additional segment, we use the same merging process to enlarge our information while keeping it cohesive. We study segment by segment, adding to our previously storage until we have a whole, usable body of information from which we can draw at any time. This reminds me of the way we learn anything, step-by-step, adding as we go.

In order to individualize that body of astrological information we start with the natal wheel for any birth. We then draw from that information pool at will, weaving together the various segments that are appropriate to that wheel in order to read the life story of that person. In short, we learn the basics of astrology so we can tell the personal story for each individual sky map.

In other articles I have suggested that there are four cornerstones to astrology: planets, signs, houses and aspects. Further, it is my conclusion that the planets are the keystone of the four cornerstones. Each of these four segments should be studied in the early stages of astrology so they may be combined as described to begin the process of a reading. In this article we will look at two of the segments, planets and houses, in a particular combining technique called the derivative house system. This technique is usable for those students of astrology that have completed the beginner stage. In brief…

• Houses are the division of the 360-degree wheel into 12 compartments. Each compartment contains approximately 1/12th of the life experience or issues for any person, so each compartment is chock full of issues. Since the entire house system is constructed with Earth in the center of each wheel, houses are the down-to-earth experience for that wheel and person.
• Planets represent the various functions of the human, such as the ego and self identity urges, the nesting, family, and emotional urges, the function of communication and learning, the urge to relate, to name a few. Traditionally there are ten bodies: our star, our satellite the Moon, and our eight sibling planets.

Derivative House System To study a single planet deeply, we must go beyond the generic meaning of that planet to see it working in the sign in which it is positioned, the house it occupies, the house it rules, and the aspects in which it is involved. All of that is valuable and is usually as far as any reading goes. The derivative technique can give you another layer of house meaning simply by looking at the 12-fold process of any of the ten planets. How? You simply start with the position of a single planet in the house it occupies and mentally recognize it as that planet’s first house expression. You then count consecutively counter-clockwise around the wheel from that first house. Each planet and what that planet represents in the individual will have contribution from all 12 houses and their issues. You do not lose the value of a regular reading of a wheel you are simply adding an additional layer of meaning. An example might make this explanation easier to understand.

Let us start with the Sun (ego urge) in Scorpio (sign) in the 5th house (occupation), ruling the 3rd (rulership), and then list the aspects and their meanings individually. That takes you through the usual method of reading the Sun. For another layer of meaning, put your finger on that Sun (ego and self identity) and recognize that its first house expression, regardless of which house the Sun occupies, is the way the world sees the Sun issues, how that Sun and its issues respond immediately to activations from your environment, personal self projection of that Sun, and the Sun’s coping skills. Where does the Sun (ego, self-identity) begin? All that actually takes place in the 5th house of this example so you must also view this solar application as creativity, children of the mind and body, speculation, and family values (2nd of the natal 4th). The Sun has more than a self-identity, it also has a value system, communication, relating, and all the other usual traditional house meanings and that is determined by this method.

• If the Sun is in the 5th and that is its point of personal projection (1st house for that person’s Sun), the value systems for the Sun will be in the adjacent (next counter-clockwise) 6th house. The Sun’s value system as the 6th house relates as work, service, and/or health issues.
• Communication for the Sun issues (self-identity, ego, etc.) is the 3rd house from the Sun or the 7th house in this example. In this example the Sun’s communication mechanism will operate through the partnership, networking function of the chart owner’s partnership house.
• One more… the home, hearth, roots (4th house issues) for the Sun actually occurs in the 8th (next house counter-clockwise) of joint values, joint finance, life and death issues, etc.

To make it easier for you to learn and to play with this technique, here are a few brief statements about basic planet and house meanings:

First planets…

• The Sun represents self-identity, ego, basic character and general vitality.
• The Moon represents the emotions, memory, maternal and instinctive urges.
• Mercury represents communication, education and transportation issues.
• Venus represents relationship skills and drives, social and financial value issues.
• Mars represents our assertive, aggressive urges, courage or the lack of them.
• Jupiter represents our expansive, philosophic, reaching for more of life urges.
• Saturn represents structure, duty, responsibility, and organizational skills.
• Uranus represents rebellion, futuristic, unique, individualization issues.
• Neptune represents inspiration, aspiration, dreams, visions, delusional issues.
• Pluto represents power, powerlessness, empowerment, and destiny at work.

Then houses…

• The 1st house is self projection, coping skills, immediate response to the environment, the way the world sees you.
• The 2nd house is social and financial values and resources, talents.
• The 3rd house is communications, education, and transportation, siblings, cousins and neighbors.
• The 4th house is home, hearth, family, roots, internal security parent, conclusions.
• The 5th house is creations of the mind and body, love, speculation, values of the family.
• The 6th house is your work-a-day issues, service to others and health.
• The 7th house is all partnerships, business and personal, networking and alliances.
• The 8th house is joint values and finance, insurance, taxes and death.
• The 9th house is belief systems, higher education, legalities, multi-cultural activities.
• The 10th house is goals, achievements, stature, reputation, career, success or lack of it
• The 11th house is friends, groups, results of career, wishes, hopes and dreams.
• The 12th house is hidden, recessive, and can be self-sabotaging, a blind spot,

Simply choose one planet and read it through the 12 houses starting with the house it occupies as number 1. You can do that for each of the 10 bodies. This is a study technique initially, but once you have the knack of it, you will find yourself including it in your readings quite easily.

One of the more enlightening aspects of Norse astrology is studying how the planets affect human history. We see this most vividly in the slow-moving planets. Loki, who is represented by the planet Uranus, brought revolution and tumult to Asia in the 20th century.

In a personal horoscope, Loki represents how we engender trouble for both ourselves and others. Unlike Odin (Moon), who provokes strife to serve a higher goal, Loki begets strife for its own sake. Loki shows how we make trouble for others. He is the dissident within us, the side that is ready to fight anybody and everybody. Loki indicates how we rebel against people, institutions, and life itself. He reveals how we ignore or defy societal roles and customs. He represents our desire to tear down stifling organizations and structures. Sometimes Loki represents the revolutionary breakthrough that we need to achieve something greater. Loki is the catalyst for change, be it good or evil. He renders everything unpredictable.

Both Norse Loki and Greco-Roman Uranus are shocking and disturbing, and often a destructive force. In the life of an individual person, they are almost always negative. But their influence on society is more double-edged. Naturally, both are disruptive and threatening to the established order. Yet these two archetypes foster discovery and illumination. Though they may promote dissatisfaction, they also raise us from our ruts.

Loki is at his greatest power in Dagaz, the rune of sudden conversion, enlightenment, cataclysmic change, and transformation into the opposite. Dagaz brings us to greatest heights, yet may also signify a plunge from this summit.

On October 1, 1949, while Loki was in Dagaz, the Chinese civil war ended when the People’s Liberation Army proclaimed the People’s Republic of China. China is the most populous nation on earth. This was a drastic change a half billion people, who moved from a backward, feudalistic society into a modern socialist nation. If judged by population, this was the world’s largest revolution. In Dagaz we see the power of Loki to overturn the social order.

Yet his influence was restrained in a few aspects. At the same time, the Norns (Neptune) were in Gebo, and Tyr (Saturn) in Raidho. The Norns in Gebo emphasize the restraints of formal contracts and personal relationships among people. Tyr in Raidho emphasizes ordered, well-defined movement in our societal duties. Thus, the Norns and Tyr provided a means by which traditional Chinese society could maintain itself in the face of a socialist revolution.

The other major historical event accompanying Loki in Dagaz was the partition of India and Pakistan in August 1947. British colonial rule had become untenable in southern Asia after World War 2, and the British government attempted to create separate Muslim and Hindu nations as they departed. The national boundaries that they drew were inadequate to the task, and the antagonistic nations of India and Pakistan were formed amid bloodbaths and mass migration. Again, Loki overthrew societal order, heedless of the consequences. The Norns, as in China, were also in Gebo, but here their position emphasized the insufficiency of formal contracts and agreements. Nationality and religion overwhelmed attempts for a peaceful settlement.

We see the difference between Norse and Greco-Roman astrology by studying the position of Loki/Uranus. The rune Dagaz straddles the end of Gemini and the beginning of Cancer. There is nothing in these two Greco-Roman signs to indicate violent revolution for one third of the world’s population. The mutable air of Gemini is hardly conducive to the radical overthrow of the social order, and peaceful, domestic, traditional Cancer may be one of the worst possible channels for Uranian energy. The Norse runes provide a better historical perspective.

We all know the major and minor aspects of astrology, and the levels of importance placed on them. But what of those aspects that aren’t given as much importance. Looking at astrology from a numerology perspective you would automatically take into consideration all divisions of the Natal chart by numbers one through nine. But main stream astrology focuses only on the numbers one (conjunction), two (opposition), three (trine), four (square), five (quintile), six (sextile), and finally, eight (semi-square). These are considered major aspects, with the sextile, semi-square and quintile all considered minor aspects in descending order.

Also, when dealing with the major aspects (conjunction, trine, square, and opposition), some astrologers will allow up to 10 degrees for aspects involving Sun, Moon, or Ascendant, but only 6-8 degrees for the other planetary aspects. The less important aspects, the sextile, sesquiquadrate, and inconjunct, are allowed 2 degrees of orb. However, the rarely used aspects, the novile and septile, are often listed in astrological programs at a default 0 degree orb and as such will only appear in a chart when an aspect to a planet, angle, etc is exact. So, bearing in mind all this active discrimination, what of these other numbers, the seven and the nine?

The number seven divides the chart into segments of approx 51 degrees, and is called a Septile, but is used very little. The number nine however, is rarely, if at all, used. The nine divides the zodiac wheel of an astrological chart by 40 degrees. This aspect is called a Novile. The novile is, interestingly, given much greater importance in Indian or Vedic Astrology in the case of a Navamsa Chart where each 40 degree section of the original chart is stretched over a 360 degree circle. This function in eastern astrology adds weight to the case for using this particular aspect more. After all, why ignore the obvious importance?

The Septile (7) is the first number of all the aspects that does not divide evenly. The general interpretation of this is that because this division is a somewhat irrational force of energy, there is something sacred and holy going on here. Much like the numerological interpretation of the number seven, septiles contain spiritual power and imply the possibility of cosmic intervention. Septiles indicate harmony and union, though in a non-conforming way. These aspects can indicate extraordinary creative efforts at self-knowledge and ultimate understanding. Septiles resonate with Venus, Cardinal, Air and Libran energy.

When operating as a transit they can represent roundabouts or forks in the road where we will choose which way we will define our future. 7 is Saturn’s number, so that’s why it is assumed these points deal with “destiny.” Character is destiny; you make your character by your choices; and you meet destiny with the creative use of your potentials. This is the responsibility that we accept as a result of Saturn’s lessons. Any planet septiling any other planet has hit a fork in the road of that process, a point where reason may not serve your ability to choose. Relying on your intuition at this point, and accepting guidance this way, will help with the irrationality of this energy.

A Novile (9) occurs when two planets are forty degrees apart. It would require a tight orb, but not necessarily an exact one: maybe two or three degrees. The novile series of aspects are related to the trines and sextiles. They’re all in the same family as it were. Interestingly the word novena is rooted in novile, and also is related to the nine muses and to the ennead. The novile conveys a somewhat charismatic, transcendental, mystical force, latent karmic details and spiritual growth. It is said to indicate development, or the ability to digest information necessary for evolutionary growth. Noviles can indicate ceremony and relate to marriage. Noviles resonate with Jupiter, Fire, Mutable and Sagittarian energy. This aspect can also symbolise a type of ‘bondage’ that people may find themselves under with regard to the planetary energies that are involved. It is an aspect that can help you to acknowledge and release past lives that hold you in servitude. This aspect is used a lot in specialist fields such as Karmic and Spiritual astrology.
