Native American Astrology – The Flicker Sign

[ad_1]

In Native American spirituality, we are connected to everything else we share space with and the earth, the sky, the sun, the moon and the animals are all considered to be our relatives. In Native American astrology, those animals become spirit companions who infuse us with their character traits, depending on when we are born, and offer spiritual assistance whenever we need it. We can learn from them and become more like them in whatever way we need.

This article is part of a series which explores each of the twelve Native American zodiac signs. In this article, we will look at the flicker sign. If you were born between June 21st and July 20th, you were born under the sign of the flicker.

Spiritual Traits

The flicker totem can stimulate new healing energies in your life when called upon, and can awaken latent talents. This awakening can lead to a flourishing of creativity and can be a catalyst for major change in your life.

The flicker totem also can help you get more in touch with your emotions and feel them more deeply. It can help you create more balance in your life, and help you connect with the rhythm and heartbeat of the earth and of other animals.

Flicker Totem Characteristics

“Individuals born under the sign of the flicker, one of the most perplexing signs, can range from timid, shy, dull, and withdrawn to brilliant, friendly, and famous. They can have a wide range if emotions, and they possess strong parental instincts. Fundamentally, people born under this sign are conservative and home loving by nature. They appreciate the security of a home base to which to retire when the stresses of life become too much to bear.” –Deborah Durbin, Simply Native American Astrology

Sometimes you can seem to be obstinate and unwilling to compromise, but when you do that, it is because you are trying to hide your insecurity. The people you are closest to see your toughness but they see your tenderness, too.

You are sometimes opinionated and once someone hurts you or does you wrong, you never forget it and you don’t let them forget it either!

Beneath your sometimes protective exterior, you long for love and understanding and can be sensitive and intuitive, but other people may not always see those traits in you.

Professions

Because people born under this sign are often curious about what other people are thinking and can be very intuitive, they make good investigative journalists. Or politicians.

Flicker people are strongly influenced by their memories from childhood and sometimes get stuck living in the past. However, this makes them good at professions that involve exploration of history.

Because they are so multi-faceted, people born under the sign of the flicker can be good at a variety of professions and just need to choose what most speaks to their hearts.

Love Life in Norse Astrology – The Role of Frigga

[ad_1]

In Norse astrology, Frigga (represented by the planet Venus) is one of three planets that indicate the quality and nature of our love life. The other two planets are Freyja (Sun) and Thor (Mars). Frigga represents the home and family. Frigga signifies the part of us that wants marriage, children, a loving family, a comfortable home, and refuge from a hostile world. Frigga helps determine how we establish a household and joint life with a long-term partner.

Because Frigga has an affinity with the Night East house of Norse astrology, we also look to that octant of the solar circle for a description of our long-term partnerships and domestic environment.

We face a paradox when studying the effect of Frigga in Norse horoscopes. Frigga is the planet of privacy, especially that of the home as a refuge from public affairs. Given her role, we will expect to find Frigga in a weak or subdued position when we consider the lives of public figures.

We begin by analyzing the Norse charts of two European heads of state, German chancellor Angela Merkel, and French president Nicolas Sarkozy. For Merkel, we find Frigga in Ansuz, the rune of the subtle wind transcending barriers. Ansuz is helpful in other contexts, but not for the personal commitments of Frigga. In addition, Frigga is in her weakest house, the Day West house, realm of public affairs. The position helps Merkel appear a mother figure to the German people, but it is not conducive to a personal family. Odin (Moon), the wanderer, is in the Night East house, accentuating the lack of domestic commitment.

For Nicholas Sarkozy, we find Frigga locked in Isa, the rune of cold, immobile ice. She has no major aspects to other planets, and only a weak aspect to Freyja. This cold and rigid environment is accentuated by the Norns (Neptune), the planet of obstacles, in the Night East house. In addition, we find the planet of societal institutions, Tyr (Saturn), in the Night East house. This position has the same effect as Merkel’s Frigga in the opposing Day West house – the domestic environment is overwhelmed by public commitments. From these aspects, we can understand how his father abandoned him, how his schoolmates taunted him, and his three marriages.

We also find a debilitated Frigga in the chart of actress Marilyn Monroe, who had three marriages and three divorces. Here we find Frigga in the intellectual airy rune Mannaz, preventing her from forming long-lasting relationships. Frigga is in the Day house, which gives prominence to her feminine qualities, but works against a comfortable private life. There are no planets in the Night East house.

Mexican painter Frida Kahlo has a more challenging Frigga. Her Frigga is in the very public Dagaz, rune of transformation, transcendence, and cataclysm. This aspect alone explains her stormy, passionate relationship with Diego Rivera, whom she divorced, then remarried. It also explains how she made her home into a sanctuary for publicly controversial celebrities such as revolutionary Leon Trotsky. Like Monroe, her Night East house is empty. Kenaz, the rune of trials, testing, and reshaping, is primary in her Night East house.

Love Astrology – Finding Your Compatible Pair

[ad_1]

Many a couple met because of consultations on astrology. The art of reading and interpreting the movement of the stars and other celestial bodies have been the basis of many relationships. Since time immemorial, people have consulted the stars and the revolving planets on matters concerning their daily lives, not excluding romance, love, and compatibility. Love astrology has found its way in most cultures including the ancient Persians, the Egyptians, our oriental brothers the Chinese, and even the Europeans. Love astrology is consulted daily and a lot of lives are affected by it. Looking for the love of one’s life by matching compatibility through love astrology occurs almost hourly and a lot of individuals leave their fate to the stars when it comes to love.

Two people meeting together have mixed signs and birth charts and according to love astrology, these aspects will greatly affect the future of a relationship. Hence, consulting the horoscope and matching each others personalities, wants, and characteristics are imperative to a lot of astrology practitioners and believers. Looking for a harmonious relationship using the stars is a common act.

People, before meeting up with a prospective partner, never fail to consult the horoscope. And the exchange of zodiac signs and Chinese astrological signs are not uncommon. And these people after getting the other person’s signs quickly consult the zodiac charts for signs of compatibility or the reverse. Decisions of continuing an acquaintance is hinged on what the stars would tell, and this is not only about what the future holds. The past of a person also plays an important role in determining a partner. Zodiac signs especially the Chinese zodiac which employs animals as birth signs indicate the person’s inherent characteristics and from there, one can make decisions immediately. If the incompatibilities are huge, it would be best to discontinue the relationship than risk an unhappy life. For example, the fires signs of Leo and Sagittarius blend well with the fiery characteristics of Aries. Getting rid of their egoistic attitude may spell success for such a partnership. Libra and Aquarius can make entertaining mind plays with Gemini, and at the same time, Gemini can keep boredom at bay when coupled with the exciting characteristics of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Water signs like Pisces and Scorpio may feel more emotionally attached to Cancer. Being very detailed is what makes a Virgo and Capricorn tandem work. Virgo is not too sensitive in helping other signs like Capricorn and Taurus which actually makes for a successful partnership/ Many Virgo ends up with Pisces.

How Astrology Could Help Solve Your Worries

[ad_1]

The positioning of planets and stars at the time of one’s birth is the essence of astrology, and defines a person’s nature, characteristics, relationships, and all aspects of life, including career and success. And an equally significant aspect of astrology, especially in Vedic Astrology is one’s Karmas, which are one’s actions and deeds from this life and previous lives.

In Vedic astrology, it is believed that a child is born when celestial rays, in the form of positioning of planets, are in perfect harmony with his karmas. One’s horoscope thus forms a portrait that explains some unalterable past and future outcomes. One’s karmas from the past define how one’s life would be, and horoscope and zodiac are thus often called the ‘kala chakra’, which means the ‘wheel of time’.

With the aid of Vedic astrology, you can know more about events that will occur in your life, and be prepared in advance to ensure that you make the best of positive times, and are unhindered by the negativity. While Vedic astrology presents before you an entire snapshot of your life, merely by using your birth chart, an astrologer can help resolve any issues faced by your loved ones in their lives!

Some of the innumerable areas of life, in which one can get a deeper and detailed insight by use of astrology, include one’s career, the right time to go ahead with a medical procedure and the best time to start a business. This could include even more refined aspects of a business, something like a product launch. At a deeper plane, astrology can help one understand the underlying motivations from experiences one has had in the past life.

Use astrology, and you could understand the driving force behind your strengths and weaknesses. Similarly, this extraordinary science can help you find answers to simple questions in life, which nevertheless have an utmost significance, like the right time to buy a house, move into an accommodation or the best time to look for a new job. Another aspect of astrology that makes a difference to the lives of millions of people around the globe is interpersonal relationships. With astrology, one can recognize how well would he get along with a partner, be it a business partner or one’s life partner.

By using astrology, one can figure out the best way to approach difficult situations in life, as these could be caused by changes in planetary positions or planetary transits. This extends to every level in life, including one’s business, interpersonal or romantic relationships, or life in general. In the same coin, astrology can help one find ways to make the best of any given situation in life.

Let’s consider an example that illustrates the power astrology has over us. We are drawn towards people for some underlying reasons, and these could be spiritual. Sometimes we learn hard lessons, but by getting an insight into astrology, we can recognize that the partner had a karmic debt towards you, and was repaying the same with grace. In the same way, astrology explains to you the strengths and weaknesses of your partner and yourself, such that you can work towards a healthier relationship and emerge stronger with every challenge that comes across your way.

Astrology & the Galactic Center

[ad_1]

At 26 degrees of Sagittarius, the Galactic Center of the Milky Way is hidden behind a veil of dust and gas. With Pluto, our Solar System’s outermost planet (symbolic of the parts of ourselves we’re least able to access) moving over this same degree, we are experiencing seismic shifts deep in our universal unconscious. The last time this occurred was in 1745, the birth of the industrial revolution. Daily life changed irrevocably as workers moved off the farms to gun production because of the Jacobite rebellion in Britain and textile expansion. The polarity of religious fundamentalism and religious exploration was represented by the birth of Hasidism and of Universalists. Ben Franklin ran with his kite to harness electricity. And of course, the voices of the American and French Revolutions were gaining momentum.

In the 1500s when Pluto was at this degree, the first map of America was published and the Protestant Reformation swept through Europe, laying the seeds for the ground on which the United States was established. Each time Pluto confronts the Galactic Center, we experience a death of the familiar routine of life while we embrace the “new birth”. It becomes impossible for us to go back to the way things were before, while we grapple with changes that we may not be able to cope with in the most progressive way.

When Pluto traveled through this point in the 1250’s, eyeglasses were introduced and Marco Polo headed for China. The illuminating piece about looking at a transit historically is we can see parallels of what occurred in the past with the present. Our medical technology continues to provide options for people, but we must deal with its ramifications. As of today, the wounded US soldiers from Iraq that cannot return to duty totals over 7500. Our technology has altered the potential casualties of this war, but the long-term consequences of maimed survivors with limited services available to them will have a far-reaching impact on our society.

Historically we see how technology has changed how we “see” life. At this time, a spa owner tells me how her clients don’t relax in the massage or treatment. Everyone has her cell phone on or Blackberry lit; we have become “married” to technology and it seems to have the signatures of a codependent relationship at best, or a battered one at worst.

Another theme has been religious expression and fundamentalism. The USA has its roots in this and we continue to struggle with the inherent paradox of giving complete freedom of religion to all. Pluto’s message is always about meeting the Shadow in the mirror. Do we embrace and integrate it or do we try to eradicate it, never meeting its lessons?

As the retrograde Pluto returns to the point of the Galactic Center, we are given the opportunity to choose how we will cope with the Age of Destruction the Mayans foresaw. We can reassess choices made when earlier explorers tried to capture new worlds to make them their own. We are integrating cellular changes caused by the increasing electromagnetic field caused by our technology, which will affect the evolution of all life forms on our planet. We can choose if we will re-visit the Sagittarian celebration of the earth and the inherent information we can glean from it. When we stepped forward into the Industrial Revolution, did it have to be at the expense of an agrarian culture and the solidity of the family? Can we balance the freedom technology should avail us with a sophisticated cooperative of farming and education? We have the power of choosing what will be destroyed and what will be born. But make no mistake about it, the more each individual takes responsibility for our culture’s destiny, the more spiritually evolved our decision will be. We have the opportunity to align our spiritual evolution with our technical evolution and each time we miss the opportunity, it gets more challenging to catch up. The thrust of Pluto’s path is to allow us a chance to go light years in a lifetime.

Mayan Zodiac Symbols – What These Ancient Astrology Signs Mean For You

[ad_1]

Mayan zodiac symbols are another way of determining your personality through astrology signs. The symbols are based on the ancient Haab calendar which has been determined to be over 5,000 years old.

Many people have never heard of the Mayan zodiac, but with increased interest in the year 2012 this information is being sought out more and more.

The Haab calendar is an approximately 365 day year calendar that is broken up into 19 months or signs. Your zodiac symbol is based on the day of your birth, similar to traditional astrology. The date ranges for each sign are listed below.

Ch’en: January 2nd to January 21st
Yax: January 22nd to February 10th
Sac: February 11th to March 2nd
Keh: March 3rd to March 22nd
Mak: March 23rd to April 11th
K’ank’in: April 12th to May 1st
Muwan: May 2nd to May 21st
Pax: May 22nd to June 10th
Kayab: June 11th to June 30th
Kumk’u: July 1st to July 20th
Wayeb: July 21st to July 25th
Pop: July 26th to August 14th
Wo: August 15th to September 3rd
Sip: September 4th to September 23rd
Sotz: September 24th to October 13th
Sec: October 14th to November 2nd
Xul: November 3rd to November 22nd
Yaxk’in: November 23rd to December 12th
Mol: December 13th to January 1st

Discovering the meanings and interpretations of Mayan zodiac symbols has been one of the largest quests by modern astrologers. Historians have accurately deciphered hieroglyphics from scrolls depicting the Haab calendar to come up with some basic interpretations.

For example, the jaguar, which played a large role in the culture and society of Mayans is featured as animal totems for three of the signs. So is the dog, which was considered to be a guide into the next world for those who pass from this one.

Other symbolism that plays a large effect in the Mayan astrology signs are the elements, the four cardinal directions, numerology and seasons of the year for agriculture.

Astrology: It’s Only Accurate If You Do This

[ad_1]

The majority of people roll their eyes at the topic of astrology. Here’s an example: “I don’t believe in astrology. It’s a lot of crap. I just think that’s another thing you should throw out the window. Mysticism. Cheap. It’s amazing that people still hang on to that after all these years.” Mick Jagger

Well, we don’t believe in the type of astrology you’ve likely been exposed to either, Mick.

What Mick and many others don’t realize is that astrology is like mathematics; you need to know where and when to use the many different factors and protocols (well beyond the mere Sun sign or horoscopes) for consistent accuracy.

Unfortunately, the Age of Reason in the 17th and 18th centuries contributed to the corruption of the ancient science of astrology, as did the commercialization of it starting in the late 19th century, giving birth to Sun sign astrology and horoscopes.

Astrology reached its developmental peak during the Middle Ages after over 2000 years of practice (in more informal and straightforward forms) in Babylon, Egypt, China, India, and elsewhere. Wise practitioners throughout the ages who understood the cyclical and ordered nature of life gave insight to kings, queens, pharaohs, emperors, religious leaders, and other powerful, influential types who wanted to capitalize on their fate and be prepared for challenging times.

Here are some quotes by people who looked beyond superficial astrology to understand the value of comprehensive astrology.

“Astrology is a language. If you understand this language, the sky speaks to you.”

Dane Rudhyar

“Perhaps there is a pattern set up in the heavens for one who desires to see it, and having seen it, to find one in himself.”

Plato

“A physician without a knowledge of Astrology has no right to call himself a physician.”

Hippocrates

“Courteous Reader, Astrology is one of the most ancient Sciences, held in high esteem of old, by the Wise and the Great. Formerly, no Prince would make War or Peace, nor any General fight in Battle, in short, no important affair was undertaken without first consulting an Astrologer.”

Benjamin Franklin

“It’s common knowledge that a large percentage of Wall Street brokers use astrology.”

Donald T. Regan

“Millionaires don’t have astrologers, billionaires do.”

J. P. Morgan

“The essential purpose of astrology is not so much to tell us what we will meet on our road, as it is to suggest how to meet it – and the basic reason for the meeting. Which quality in us, which type of strength is needed to go through any specific phase of our total unfoldment as an individual person.”

Dane Rudhyar

“Oh the wonderful knowledge to be found in the stars. Even the smallest things are written there… if you had but skill to read.”

Benjamin Franklin

“I think the Greeks first took astrology to India and took from the Hindus the science of astronomy and carried it back with them from Europe. Because in India you will find old altars made according to a certain geometrical plan, and certain things had to be done when the stars were in certain positions, therefore I think the Greeks gave the Hindus astrology, and the Hindus gave them astronomy.”

Swami Vivekananda

“A child is born on that day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with his individual karma.”

Sri Yukteswar Giri

“That we can now think of no mechanism for astrology is relevant but unconvincing. No mechanism was known, for example, for continental drift when it was proposed by Wegener. Nevertheless, we see that Wegener was right, and those who objected on the grounds of unavailable mechanism were wrong.”

Carl Sagan

“The Birth-chart has to be understood as the archetype or seed-pattern of one’s individual being – as the ‘symbolic’ form of one’s individuality, and therefore also of one’s destiny, for the two are identical.”

Dane Rudhyar

Norse Astrology, Norse Horoscopes – Superior to Traditional Greco-Roman Astrology?

[ad_1]

Norse and Greco-Roman astrology differ in their interpretation of the planets, houses, and runes (signs). Given its foundation in Northern European and heathen tradition, Norse astrology provides better spiritual and psychological insight for individuals of Northern and Central European heritage. Because it generates stable house definitions regardless of birth latitude, it is also more appropriate for those born more than 30 degrees north of the equator.

Planets – Perhaps the most striking difference between Norse and Greco-Roman astrology is how they describe planetary energy. Norse astrology uses the gods and goddesses of the Norse pantheon, and, unlike Greco-Roman, Norse is equally balanced between male and female. The most important planets are Odin the Moon and Freyja the Sun. Female planetary energy manifests itself with Mercury representing Skadhi, Venus representing Frigga, and Neptune representing the Norns. Male planetary energy manifests itself with Mars representing Thor, Jupiter representing Freyr, Saturn representing Tyr, and Uranus representing Loki (who sometimes assumed a feminine form). The northern and southern declinations of the Moon represent Heimdal and Hel. In Norse astrology, the planets have strong affinities to the houses, but a lesser relationship to the runes. In contrast, Greco-Roman planets have strong affinities to the signs (rulerships), but little relationship to the houses.

Houses – An equally compelling difference is the definition of houses in Norse astrology. In contrast to the arbitrarily-placed Greco-Roman houses, Norse astrology uses the eight solar houses of ancient heathen and pagan tradition. The meaning and placement of these eight houses is intuitive and clear. The eternal dimensions of day vs. night and self vs. other define how the houses function within our natal horoscope. The Night-West house is affiliated with the Norns, the Night house with Skadhi, the Night-East house with Frigga, and the East house with Freyja. The Day-East house is affiliated with Thor, the Day house with Freyr, the Day-West house with Tyr, and the West house with Loki. Odin, the eternal wanderer, has no house affiliation.

Runes – Norse astrology uses 24 equal-sized runes to define the planets’ positions along the ecliptic. In addition to providing greater detail, they are a better description of the cosmic forces that influence our 21st century lives. These runes form an alphabet of universal archetypes by which we can explain the attributes of our world, and our selves. In contrast, Greco-Roman astrology tries to depict these forces through the symbolism of sub-human animals. The runes are eternal, for they are independent of the millennial drift of constellations.

Norse astrology is a superior alternative because of the gender balance of its planetary energies, the intuitively clear meaning of its houses, and its stable and archetypal runes.
